Your support helps us provide things that genuinely change someone’s days: for example, upon leaving hospital after surgery, our member who lived alone, was unable to lift her arms above her head, leaving it impossible to wash her hair. Beyond The Storm paid for a mobile hairdresser to visit our member once a week for four weeks to wash and style her hair. Just this simple act meant our member was happy to let people in the house to visit her and aid her recovery rather than turning people away because she felt she looked "disgusting". For just a few pounds, her anxiety disappeared and her recovery continued.
Another member has recounted how everyone sent flowers and well wishes in the days leading up to her surgery but once she was out of hospital recovering, people assumed she was "better" and after an initial check in from friends after she got home from hospital, she largely felt alone and forgotten as others got on with their lives but she was left with the memories of what she had just been through. We found this out through online chats here and reached out several times a month to remind her that she has not been forgotten. The cost of a bunch of flowers through the post made her feel loved and important to herself again.
